Dr Jaco Janse van Rensburg joined Southern Anaesthetics in June 2016

 

Jaco obtained his MBChB degree in 2005 from the University of Pretoria. After completion of his internship in Bloemfontein and his community service in Nelspruit, he completed his Diploma in Anaesthesia in 2009, whilst still at Rob Ferreira hospital, Nelspruit.

 

With this foundation, Jaco began his Anaesthetic registrar training in Ireland and was based at Tralee & Waterford Regional Hospitals for almost two years.

 

Jaco then returned to South Africa and completed his specialist training at the University of Cape Town where he obtained his Fellowship in Anaesthesia FCA (SA) at the beginning of 2015. Jaco also completed his MMed in Anaesthesia in 2015 and his research has recently been accepted for publication. Since then Jaco has been a Specialist Consultant at the University of Cape Town’s Department of Anesthesiology, and more recently at the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Stellenbosch.

 

 

Jaco has a passion for teaching and training and his interests are Peri-operative medicine, Ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia & vascular access, and Focused Assessment Transthoracic Echo (FATE). Having completed the advanced FATE course, he has been a facilitator for FATE courses. Other volunteer work includes serving as a crewmember with Air Mercy Services (AMS) – a division of Red Cross.

 

 

Jaco enjoys trail running and hiking, but his main sporting passion is triathlons. He has completed the Tristar 111 Monaco, three Ironman 70.3 events and a full Ironman..

 

 

Jaco is married to Lienke and they have a son and a daughter.
