Dr Johan Marais

MBChB(Stell) DA(SA) FCA(SA)

 

Johan Marais obtained his MBChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 1991 and commenced his anaesthetic training at Edendale Hospital in 1993. He followed this up with two years in the United Kingdom as an Anaesthetics registrar. He returned to the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 1997 and obtained the Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of South Africa in 2000. This was followed by post fellowship training in adult intensive care and paediatric anaesthesia.

 

Johan has always involved himself in professional organisations and has previously served as the secretary for the Cape Western Branch of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists.

 

Johan joined Southern Anaesthetics in 2010 and has had anaesthetic experience in all surgical specialities. He currently has a special interest in general surgical, ophthalmic, orthopaedic and trauma anaesthesia.
His current elective work includes laparoscopic colo-rectal, ocular cosmetic, vascular and joint replacement anaesthesia. He works at the following hospitals on a regular basis: Kingsbury, Claremont, Vincent Pallotti, Constantiaberg, Milnerton, Panorama and Gatesville.

 

Johan has a wide range of interests, some of which include running, swimming, fishing and hiking.
