Southern Anaesthetics is proud to announce that Dr Tshebeletso Christian Ngaka joined our practice on the 1st January 2020.
Chris grew up in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, and matriculated at Mariazelle High School before obtaining his MBChB at Walter Sisulu University in 2006. He completed his internship at Groote Schuur Hospital before completing four years of medical officer training at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth where he obtained his Diploma in Anaesthesia in 2010.
Chris entered the Anaesthetic registrar-training program at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2012 and excelled in all departments. He was awarded the Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of South Africa in 2016. In the same year he obtained his MMED (Anaesthesia) Magna Cum Laude with his research entitled “The influence of body mass index on sensorimotor block and vasopressor requirement during spinal anaesthesia for elective caesarean delivery”. He was the elected Anaesthetic registrar representative for 2014 and 2015, and not surprisingly won the UCT research prize in 2016.
For the last three years, Chris has been an associate at “Bay Anaesthetists” – an Anaesthetic Private Practice Group covering the two major private hospitals in Port Elizabeth (Greenacre hospital and St Georges hospital) The anaesthetic service on a daily basis spreads over the following surgical specialties: ENT, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology (including anaesthesia for robotic urological surgery).
Chris and his wife Portia have decided to relocate to Cape Town for good, and his daughter is looking forward to starting at Rustenburg Girls High School in 2020, and his son is re-joining friends at Rondebosch Boys Preparatory School.
Chris is an outdoor enthusiast and an accomplished ultra-trail runner. He also regularly participates in road & mountain biking, and stand-up paddling.
