Kathryn grew up in Durban, KZN and matriculated in 2006 before moving to Pretoria to study her MBChB at the University of Pretoria. Following two years of internship in Pietermaritzburg, she relocated to Cape Town in 2015 to complete her Community Service, after which she earned a Diploma in Emergency Medicine in 2016. She returned to Pietermaritzburg to commence her medical officer training in anaesthesia, obtaining her Diploma in Anaesthesia in 2017.
She then worked as a medical officer in anaesthesia in the Western Cape, before enrolling in the UCT Anaesthesia training programme in January 2019.
In 2022, Kathryn obtained both her Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists (FCA) and her Master of Medicine in Anaesthesiology (MMed). She then joined the UCT Department of Anaesthesia as a specialist, gaining extensive experience across diverse settings. These included Groote Schuur Hospital’s Intensive Care Units and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Additionally, she actively contributed to intern and registrar teaching during her time there.
