Janieke grew up in Pretoria. She graduated with with a MBBCh in 2000 from the University of the Witwatersrand.
She completed her internship at Paarl Hospital in the Western Cape in 2001, and her Community Service in Kimberley Hospital Complex and Kuruman Hospital in the Northern Cape.
She spent a year working in the United Kingdom before returning to work in Anaesthesia and ICU in Kimberley as a Medical Officer, where she obtained her DA in Anaesthesia.
She graduated as a specialist from the University of Cape Town in 2009. She worked as a Senior Specialist in that department for 12 years.
Here she gained experience across all anaesthesia specialities, including cardiac and vascular anaesthesia. Janieke has spoken at many local congresses and has lectured candidates for the part 1 and part 2 exams. She has supervised many registrar MMed projects and was an examiner for the Part 2 specialisation exams.
Janieke was also the Head of the Chronic Pain Management Clinic of the Groote Schuur Hospital Pain clinic for 12 years.
She joined private practice in September 2021.
