Dr Barry Penn Retires.
Barry was one of the founding members of Southern Anaesthetics. Born and bred in Port Elizabeth having matriculated at Victoria Park High. He attended UCT medical School. Worked at Edendale Hospital in KZN. Spent some time in London and returned to specialise at Tygerberg Hospital Cape Town. Returned to the UK and qualified as an anaesthesiologist. Married with 3 children and two grandchildren. He has a very wide interest in sporting activities which include surfski, canoeing, swimming,trail running and golf. He was very active in anaesthetic nurse education and started nursing education amongst the private hospitals in Cape Town and the Southern Suburbs. He was very involved in setting up the Kingsbury Hospital operating theatres and Intensive Care Unit when the hospital was built. He has sat on the Constantiaberg and Kingsbury Hospital advisory boards. At present involved with Peninsula Canoe Club executive Vice Chairman.
